Let My People Move! A Song for an Energetic Exodus

A New Passover Movement Song for Early Childhood

If you’ve ever tried to keep a room full of kiddos engaged during the retelling of the Exodus story, you know: sitting still isn’t always part of the plan—and it shouldn’t be! That’s exactly why I wrote March Out of Egypt—a movement-based zipper song designed to turn the Passover story into a full-body experience.

This simple, repetitive, and totally adaptable song invites kids to embody the journey to freedom—marching, hopping, spinning, and dancing their way out of Egypt. It’s perfect for early childhood educators, family engagement programs, or even around the seder table with your little ones.

Why I Wrote This Song

The story of leaving Egypt is one of liberation, action, and transformation. It felt only right to let kids move through the story, not just hear about it. This song is simple, repetitive, and totally adaptable, making it a go-to for preschool classrooms, family programs, or even around the seder table. It can serve as a brain and body break while we explore these complex concepts.

🎵 Lyrics to “March Out of Egypt”

Verse 1
March out of Egypt, march with me
God took us out, and now we’re free
March out of Egypt, thank God today!
March out of Egypt, hooray!

Bridge
Sometimes we march fast
Sometimes we march slow
We’re going to Israel—c’mon, let’s go!

Repeat with variations:

  • Hop out of Egypt
  • Dance out of Egypt
  • Spin out of Egypt

(You can keep going with whatever movements fit your group!)

Let's Talk About the Fast and the Slow

This might be my favorite part of the song. Switching speeds mid-song adds a theatrical flair that keeps kids on their toes. When we go fast, it builds excitement and energy—when we go slow, it pulls everyone back in and adds suspense.

It’s not just fun—it’s an effective way to reset attention and create dynamic contrast.

Forgive me, grammar police!

Also: I know, I know… it should technically be “slowly.” My inner grammar teacher winces as I I sing it. But I’m choosing creative license here. 😄 If your soul needs the “-ly,” I give you full permission to sing it your way. Flexibility is part of the fun!

Final Thought

This song isn’t about performance—it’s about participation. When kids sing and move their way through the story of freedom, they’re not just learning about the Exodus… they’re becoming part of it.

So go ahead—march, hop, spin, and dance out of Egypt. And let your people move.
