Welcome to AI-Powered Engagement!

If you’re leading family engagement efforts, you’re probably doing the work of an entire team—without enough time, resources, or support.

If you’ve ever wished for an extra set of hands (or brains!) to help you analyze, refine, and enhance your programs, you’re in luck. AI-powered tools like ChatGPT can help you gain strategic insights, optimize messaging, and streamline your outreach—without adding extra work.

The Challenge of Jewish Family Engagement

Creating meaningful Jewish experiences for families today is incredibly complex. You’re not just planning programs—you’re navigating:

Shifting engagement norms

Packed family schedules

Limited resources

The expectations are high, but the opportunity is astronomical (see my Tot Shabbat Research for that data).

Like so many Jewish professionals, I often wondered:

Who has already figured this out? What’s working? How do I reach more families and deepen their connection to Jewish life?

How AI Can Support Your Work

That’s when I started using generative AI as my assistant—not to replace me, but to enhance what I do best. It helps me:

Think through complex challenges

Refine outreach & communication

Deliver more strategic & meaningful experiences

Whether you’re a rabbi, cantor, educator, family engagement director, or community leader, your work requires more than just teaching Jewish content. It’s about understanding families, fostering relationships, and building lasting community connections.

AI Tools Enhance—Not Replace—Your Expertise

That’s where AI-powered tools like ChatGPT come in. They can help you:

Refine your messaging to better reach and resonate with families

Generate fresh ideas for family-centered Jewish programming

Save time on planning so you can focus on meaningful engagement

Many Jewish leaders aren’t sure where to start, and that’s okay. You don’t need to be a tech expert—just start small.

Option for Advanced Beginners:

Context Matters.

Before using the AI prompts below, give ChatGPT the right context. This will dramatically improve the relevance and usefulness of the responses you receive

Pre-Prompt: Analyze the demographics of families with children aged [insert age range] in [insert geographic area]. Provide insights into typical family structures, income levels, cultural backgrounds, and other relevant demographic information, including the realities of modern family life, such as dual-working parents, non-traditional caregivers, and families balancing multiple extracurricular commitments. Highlight common engagement barriers, such as time constraints, competing priorities, and digital vs. in-person preferences.

Additionally, suggest research-backed strategies to optimize our marketing, messaging, and outreach efforts. Focus on approaches that effectively support and engage this population in our [Title of Program] and family engagement programs while considering the best formats, timeframes, and communication channels for reaching them.

I’m sharing five AI prompts I personally use to strengthen Jewish family engagement efforts—whether for services, learning experiences, or family programming. These prompts will help you think strategically, save time, and create experiences that truly connect with families.

The robots aren’t taking over—we’re just leveraging them to make our work easier, because what we do is incredibly challenging. We’re working to attract, build, and sustain relationships with families in contemporary Jewish life—one of the hardest, yet most meaningful, challenges there is.

Just copy, paste (adjust as desired), and let the robot do the work—while you lead. Let’s dive in!

1. Demographic Assessment: Know Your Audience & Optimize Outreach

Understand the families you serve to tailor your marketing and messaging effectively.

How to Use This Prompt: Copy, paste, and replace the placeholders with your location and age range. ChatGPT will analyze key demographic trends and suggest how to optimize outreach.

Analyze the demographics of families with children aged [insert age range] in [insert geographic area].

Additionally, suggest specific research-backed strategies to optimize our marketing, messaging, and outreach efforts . Focus on approaches that effectively support and engage this population in our [Title of Program] and family engagement programs while considering the best formats, timeframes, and communication channels for reaching them.

2. Marketing Image Assessment & Brand Alignment

Ensure your visuals effectively attract and engage families.

How to Use This Prompt: Upload a marketing image into ChatGPT and provide brand details before running the prompt. AI will analyze your design’s strengths and offer actionable feedback.

Please analyze this image based on the following:

  1. Clarity & First Impressions – Does the design clearly communicate its purpose at a quick glance? Would someone unfamiliar with our programs immediately understand what this is about?

  2. Readability & Accessibility – Is the text easy to read and engaging for busy parents, caregivers, and community members?

  3. Visual Appeal & Inclusivity – Do the colors, fonts, and layout feel welcoming, warm, and engaging to a diverse range of families raising Jewish children?

  4. Actionability & Engagement – Does the design make it clear what the viewer should do next (e.g., sign up, attend, learn more)?

Based on this, please suggest two to three improvements to make the design more effective, engaging, and inclusive.

  • If there are any common design pitfalls, kindly explain them and suggest how to avoid them in the future.
  • Offer simple, actionable recommendations (such as small tweaks to color, text placement, or wording) that would have the biggest impact.

Bonus: If this image were used on social media, what’s one stronger caption we could use to improve engagement?

Pro Tip: Before running the prompt, provide ChatGPT with a quick description of your brand (colors, fonts, tone) to receive the most relevant feedback.

3. Explaining Big Ideas to Children & Families

Prepare developmentally appropriate explanations for complex concepts.

How to Use This Prompt: Fill in the topic you’re trying to explain, and ChatGPT will generate responses tailored to different age groups.

I am preparing to explain the topic of [insert complex idea here] in a Jewish family engagement setting. I want to enhance my understanding of developmental appropriateness, so please consider literacy levels, attention spans, social emotional development and cognitive development in each response. Help me craft explanations that are clear, engaging, and developmentally appropriate for:

  • A 3-year-old
  • A 6-year-old
  • A 9-year-old

I am working towards enhancing my understanding of  engaging and educating children, so please make the distinctions clear and offer insights that will be helpful in elevating my approach.

Example Topics: Death, Peace, Freedom, Gratitude

4. Collecting Testimonials & User-Generated Content

Leverage real experiences to build credibility and engagement.

How to Use This Prompt: Customize it for your program and send it as a text or email to past participants.

I am looking to reconnect with families who have participated in [insert congregation name]’s family engagement programs. Please craft a warm and engaging message I can send via text or email, inviting them to share a brief testimonial or photos of their experience.”

Message Guidelines:

  • Warm & Personal—Make it feel like a genuine request, not a mass email.
  • Purposeful—Explain why their feedback matters and how it will be used.
  • Simple Ask—Keep it easy to respond; provide prompts or guiding questions.
  • Gratitude-Infused—Show appreciation for their time and participation.

Testimonial Prompt Ideas:

  •  What has [program] meant to your family?
  •  What’s one special memory you’ve had from attending?
  • How has it helped your child(ren) connect with Jewish traditions?

Pro Tip: These messages work best when sent to families with whom you have a personal relationship and have seen engage meaningfully with your programs. These are not one-size-fits-all messages. Personalization goes a long way—if you can mention a specific memory or moment this family shared with you, do it!

5. Strengthen Your Community Messaging & Engagement Strategy

Refine your messaging to ensure it resonates with families.

How to Use This Prompt: AI can help you refine your outreach by identifying ways to make your messaging more inviting, effective, and action-driven. Before running the prompt below, make sure to provide ChatGPT with audience context (from prompt #1), since you’ve already researched your audience, include key insights—such as family demographics, engagement barriers, or preferred communication styles—so the AI’s recommendations will be more tailored to your needs.

Analyze the following past event descriptions and outreach messages. Identify areas for improvement and suggest refinements to make the messaging more clear, warm, and action-driven. Ensure that the language feels engaging, inclusive, and family-focused. Then, generate an optimized version for our upcoming event, aligning with our primary goal.”

Fill in Before Running the Prompt:

  • Past Messaging Samples: (Insert previous event descriptions, emails, or social posts)
  • Primary Goal: (e.g., Encourage sign-ups, increase attendance, foster connection)
  • Upcoming Event Details: (Include date, time, and a brief description)

Bonus: Try asking AI to: Suggest multiple tone variations (warm and inviting, playful, direct and concise) or generate social media captions based on the updated messaging.

Think of AI Like a Conversation—Let it help!

Here’s something most people don’t realize: You don’t need to know the perfect question to ask ChatGPT. You can talk to AI like a conversation—literally tell it:

I’m working on a Tot Shabbat/family program and I don’t even know what to ask. Can you help me figure out what I need? Take it one step at a time.

And guess what? It will guide you. You can refine, adjust, and ask for clarifications just like you would with a human thought partner.
